Tam’s 25-Day Keto Journey – Day 20

May 5, 2018
I’m really surprised that I’ve already hit day 20. Only 5 more days until I go on vacation and allow myself to introduce some carbs/sugars back into my diet. It’s vacation — you gotta splurge a little!
By now, eating Keto is a routine. I’m finding that dining out is a little bit easier. Justin and I are hanging out, and he suggested a local breakfast place called Bill O’ Fare. I love this place, but have never eaten Keto here, so I was a bit apprehensive. However, one look at the menu, and I knew I could make it work. Omelettes are very keto-friendly, especially if you can customize them. I ordered an omelette with Italian sausage, jalapeños, green onion, cheddar cheese, and sour cream. It was divine. To compliment the omelette, I substituted the potatoes (oh, how I wish I could’ve tasted those hash browns) for cottage cheese, and a side of bacon.
This was a great way to fill my stomach this morning. I feel completely satisfied, and I have a new appreciation for cottage cheese. It doesn’t look that appetizing, but it has a nice fatty, creamy flavor. I think I may try to add this to my meals in the future.
I have some trouble finding a reliable source of information about eating out while on Keto, so I might put together my own guide — as a resource for myself and for others.
Justin also lent me his Keto breathalyzer today. I can’t try it out yet as I don’t have my computer on me at the moment, but I’m excited to be able to see and confirm my actual ketosis state. No more guessing or doubts!
I should have an update on this soon!
We stopped by a random cafe in Santa Cruz, as we’re spending a few hours there today. There is something about a beach side town that is so relaxing and healing for me.
I was surprised that on their menu, they had an item called “Paleo Latte.” I know that something that is Paleo is not automatically Keto, so I asked what was in it. The cashier said to me “Do you know bulletproof coffee? It’s basically that, but we can’t call it that, so we call it a Paleo Latte.” It contained butter and MCT oil, blended into a smooth coffee drink. Sold! It is really delicious.
It never hurts to ask what’s in something!
In case you’re in Santa Cruz and want to try it out, the cafe is called Cat & Cloud Coffee, and you want to order the Paleo Latte or the Paleo Mocha (Same as the Latte with unsweetened cocoa butter).
Before we were at Cat & Cloud, I forgot to mention that I stopped by Trader Joe’s to buy some Macadamia nuts. I wanted to have this with me to snack on, so I would not be left hungry if we end up walking around Santa Cruz. There are tons of temptations here such as handmade candies, chocolates, gourmet ice cream, and boardwalk/theme park foods.
All-in-all, I’m feeling way more comfortable going out while being able to keep myself on Keto.
